September 14, 2026 — The expected Wrath of the Lich King Anniversary reveal did not happen at BlizzCon 2026. Across the opening ceremony, both WoW What's Next panels and the Forever Deep Dive, Blizzard announced no WotLK Anniversary realms, dates or phases. Our day-one recap lists every announcement; Anniversary is absent from all of them.
TL;DR
- No WotLK Anniversary across ceremony, What's Next panels, or Deep Dive
- The Classic headline is World of Warcraft: Forever — Nov 4 launch, beta Sep 17
- TBC Anniversary continues on its current progression (Black Temple phase live since Aug 27)
- Community expectation points to a 2027 WotLK window, but that is speculation — no official date, phases, or realm structure exist
What this means
Blizzard chose to put its full Classic weight behind Forever rather than splitting the spotlight. A WotLK Anniversary would continue the Classic→TBC→WotLK character progression chain; instead the only forward path Blizzard sold on stage is the level-60-evergreen Forever branch.
The overlap question from our Classic+ hub resolves in one direction: Forever launches November 4 against no announced WotLK date. If Blizzard later slots WotLK Anniversary into 2027, it lands inside Forever's first content year (Hardcore winter 2026-27, new raids spring 2027) — the collision risk moves, it does not disappear.
Private server implications
WotLK remains the most-played expansion in the private scene (Warstorm, Maelstrom, Triumvirate among many tracked options). No official Anniversary means no near-term audience drain from that direction — while Frostmourne's Sep 19 launch shows the private WotLK scene is expanding on its own schedule. The tracker reflects status shifts as they verify.
