September 14, 2026 — Whitemane's Frostmourne realm launches Saturday, September 19, ten days later than first planned. Per the project's September 5 announcement, the delay buys integration time for systems originally slated post-launch: Collections, transmogrification, HD character models, a rebuilt Character Creator, Personal Loot and a fully reworked Naxxramas Heroic.
TL;DR
- What: WotLK 3.3.5a "Rebuffed" — an enhanced/remaster-style take on Wrath, not a buffed-numbers seasonal realm
- Launch: Saturday Sep 19; Tier 7 Normal opens Sep 30, Heroic Oct 7 (Heroic requires Normal progression)
- Headliners: mechanically reworked Heroic Naxx (80+ recorded changes), player-first Personal Loot, Item Quality Progression upgrades, account-wide Collections, Domination solo legacy raids
- Client: Vulkan backend, HD models, rebuilt Character Creator, server-driven hotfixes, full Polish localization
- PvP: Savage/Hateful/Deadly path via Marks/Honor/Conquest; Season 5 gear has no rating requirement
- Scale of work: 769 Core+Client commits since July 31, 227 player-facing changelog entries (per Whitemane)
Heroic Naxxramas is mechanical, not just numbers
Every boss carries separate 10/25 Normal/Heroic profiles, and the Heroic layer adds mechanics rather than multipliers. Documented examples include Kel'Thuzad losing Phase 1 and gaining an attackable phylactery plus a final phase, the Four Horsemen stacking a raid-wide Dirge per kill, Gothik's forced-reunion Soul Convergence, and Thaddius resurrecting into an escalating race. Normal teaches the raid; Heroic tests it.
Loot: player-first Personal Loot + quality upgrades
Personal Loot covers level-80 Heroic and Ascended five-man bosses: the game picks the winning player first via hidden roll, then generates an item for that player's specialization (manual Loot Specialization selection coming). Separately, eligible quest, crafted and BoP dungeon/raid items can roll quality upgrades — an Uncommon quest reward has a 19% Rare / 1% Epic chance — across 9,268 catalogued variants. The endgame item ceiling does not move; the road there gets spikier.
Collections, Domination, currencies
Mounts and companion pets go account-wide at launch (appearances/transmog and toys follow). Domination lets level-80 characters solo legacy Vanilla/TBC raids via an auto-applied player buff, feeding Collections and transmog without turning old raids into gearing routes. The emblem sprawl collapses into four currencies — Justice, Valor, Honor, Conquest — with cumulative catch-up caps instead of use-it-or-lose-it weeklies.
Leveling and PvP path
Faster XP/reputation/professions, auto-learned spells, 10-gold dual spec, AoE looting, free Apprentice Riding with a level-20 mount, and cross-faction grouping. Phase 1 PvP runs Savage (Marks of Savagery from BG wins) → Hateful (Honor) → Deadly (Conquest), with Conquest starting at 2,000 capacity growing weekly.
Launch schedule (per Whitemane)
- Sep 19 — Frostmourne launches
- Sep 30 — Tier 7 Normal opens (may move earlier on community feedback)
- Oct 7 — Tier 7 Heroic opens, one week after Normal
Bottom line
Frostmourne is the most systems-ambitious WotLK launch of the year: a remaster-style client, a real Heroic redesign, and an economy built for late joiners. The risk is the usual one for big-bang launches — ten extra days of integration testing against a checklist that spans database, core, client extension and CDN. The tracker entry carries the realm facts; this post covers the launch.
