Blizzard published a full description of Forever's Camping system on October 21: "Gather Around the Campfire in World of Warcraft: Forever". It is the first complete picture of the profession camp features the beta hinted at, and it changes what a profession is worth to a group of strangers on the road.
The system in one paragraph
The Cooking profession's ordinary Cooking Fire becomes a Basic Campfire, and a placed campfire creates a shared campsite. Up to three additional camp features, contributed one per nearby player, attach to the camp. A player who sits or crafts at the campsite for one minute gains the benefit of the features there. Every camp feature requires a campfire nearby, and every camp feature shares a one hour cooldown.
A starter zone quest introduces the system early. Features come from profession skill level 20 via starter zone quests or the profession trainer, and items requiring skill 140 or higher drop in dungeons and raids.
The camp feature table, from the official article
| Profession | Item | Skill | What it grants | Exclusive with |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Cooking | Basic Campfire | 1 | cooking plus up to 3 attached camp features | n/a |
| First Aid | First Aid Kit | 20 | 3-56 Stamina (level dependent) | Power Word: Fortitude |
| Fishing | Fishing Bowl | 20 | 8% increased stats | Blessing of Kings |
| Alchemy | Mana Well | 20 | 10-29 mana every 5 seconds | Blessing of Wisdom |
| Blacksmithing | Sharpening Wheel | 20 | 6-34 Strength | Strength of Earth Totem |
| Enchanting | Enchanted Lute | 20 | 28-260 armor, 0-13 all stats, 0-22 all resistances | Mark of the Wild |
| Engineering | Reagent Bot | 20 | purchase reagents without a vendor | n/a |
| Herbalism | Incense Candle | 20 | 2-25 Intellect | Arcane Intellect |
| Leatherworking | Camp Tent | 20 | +5% of a level in rested experience (no effect if already exceeded) | n/a |
| Skinning | Camp Chair | 20 | 2% critical strike chance, spells and attacks | Moonkin Aura |
| Tailoring | Faction Banner | 20 | 14-32 Spirit, your faction only | Divine Spirit |
Most of the stat features are explicitly variants of buffs normally provided by specific classes and are exclusive with them. The phrase by phrase wording matters for expected group play: a campsite is not a raid buff dispenser, it is a replacement for the buff you did not bring.
The upgrades, and the conveniences
Cooks can learn upgraded campfires that allow five and eventually ten objects per camp, while other professions unlock standalone conveniences such as Alchemy Laboratories and Tanning Racks. The official article does not list which professions unlock which conveniences beyond those two names, so treat the full set as unconfirmed.
The social design, and the PvP warning
The system's purpose as Blizzard frames it: roadside pauses that "turn into a helpful encounter, a trading opportunity, or the start of new friendships." That is a deliberate read of what private servers have always provided by accident, players hanging around shared spaces, and the article says the quiet part plainly: "Camping offers another way to live in Azeroth, not just move through it."
The warning is aimed at PvP rulesets: "that risk increases when enemy players come upon your camp." Camp raiding, a private server tradition that ranges from petty to legendary, is a supported interaction at launch, not an exploit.
What this changes for the scene
Two things worth carrying over to any private server pitch deck. First, the camp system makes world chat and vicinity social behavior mechanically rewarded, which is the thing retail has asked addons to fake for years. Second, the exclusivity table shows Blizzard chose to make camping useful without replicating full raid buffs, so groups still have reasons to bring classes. Both are directly relevant to how playerbot realms and RPPvE communities design their own gathering places.
