In four days, Blizzard presents an in-depth look at one of the new dungeons being added in World of Warcraft: Forever, on the PAX Aus stage at 01:00 UTC on October 9. We covered the announcement; this is what the segment itself needs to answer to be worth anything.
The question
Is it a new layout with Classic mechanics, or new mechanics in a Classic layout?
Those are different claims with different consequences:
- New layout, Classic mechanics means Forever's PvE is a content drop: fresh geography running on systems players already understand. The interesting follow-ups are size, boss count, and where it sits in progression.
- New mechanics in a Classic layout means Forever's PvE is a systems change: familiar geography running on rules players have to learn. The interesting follow-ups are what the mechanics are and whether they appear elsewhere.
The announcement says neither. It promises "an in-depth look" plus design philosophy, which could be either or both.
Why it matters more than a dungeon preview normally would
Dungeons are the least-documented part of Forever. Classes have deep dives with numbers. Progression has the Legacy System with a cap and a table. Instanced content has had almost nothing specific said about it in public.
So this segment is not one preview among many. It is the first specific information about Forever's PvE endgame structure, a month before launch, and whatever it establishes becomes the baseline every later dungeon announcement gets read against.
What to watch besides the dungeon
Hands-on reports. The booth runs the beta all weekend, and attendees write things. First-hand game-feel reporting from non-Blizzard players is the most valuable possible output of this event, more than the stage segment, because everything in our coverage currently comes from Blizzard posts or CDN metadata.
Whether the mechanics shown match the datamined record. The fan references read game files; the stage shows design intent. If those disagree on anything, the disagreement is the story.
Whether a date is attached. Announcements without dates are the category this tracker treats as unverifiable. A dungeon with a launch-day or December 9 attachment is a claim; without one it is a demo.
