Midnight's 12.1.5 content update arrives on 13 October, announced 29 September, with weekly maintenance. It is retail rather than Forever, and on its own it is a normal expansion update.
It is worth writing down because of when it lands: three weeks before Forever launches on 4 November.
What is in it
- A single-boss raid, The Unbinding of Kith'ix, against Kith'ix, with flexible Mythic difficulty.
- The Labyrinth of Kindo'jan, described as a massive Delve-like gauntlet with nine chambers, a Tier 11 solo challenge, Mythic gear, cosmetics and titles.
- Season 2 with a mid-season refresh and Keystone Mythic.
- A new story campaign, The Promise of Tomorrow, returning to Quel'Thalas and Zul'Aman.
- An outdoor event, the Aqir Invasion.
A dated prerequisite, which is the actionable part
There is a quest chain players are being told to complete before weekly maintenance during the week of 6 October, and it is the kind of thing this site exists to catch:
- Accept "In the Catalyst's Shadow" from Decimus in Voidstorm.
- Travel to Silvermoon City and pick up "Prismatic Potential" from Orin Straylight.
- Turn it in, and a progress timer appears above Orin's head.
- After his research completes during the week of 6 October, he offers "Umbral Blessings of the Catalyst".
Why it matters: during realm maintenance that same week, Orin begins offering one additional Nebulous Voidcore a week to bonus roll for extra loot. Players who skip the chain lose a week of that.
That is a dated, reversible-if-missed task, published three weeks ahead, and it is the single most time-sensitive thing on Blizzard's news pages this week.
Why this is Forever-relevant
Two things, both careful.
Blizzard is running a full expansion alongside the Forever launch. Midnight is in 12.1.5 with a raid, a Season 2 and a campaign on 13 October. Forever launches on 4 November. The same studio is shipping a modern expansion's content update three weeks before launching a Classic-remake branch. Anyone covering both is covering two products from one pipeline, and the deep-dive cadence, the podcast and the Legacy System all sit inside that.
The naming is worth noting without reading into it. Midnight's dungeon content uses Mythic difficulty terminology, Season structure, Keystone mechanics and a solo Tier 11 challenge. Forever, by contrast, publishes Legacy talents, 65 Legacy Challenges, a 16-point talent milestone and a level 40 Dual Specialization. Those are two different design vocabularies being published three weeks apart, and the private-server scene is already building servers around the second one.
We are not going to predict which survives contact with launch, or whether Forever gets seasons. The posts say what they say and both are subject to change before their dates.
What we cannot tell you
We have not played Midnight and cannot speak to the quality of any of it. Everything above is from the announcement post. The 13 October date is a future event at the time of writing, and both updates can slip.
