September 12, 2026 — Battlegrounds gets a new minion type. Revealed at the BlizzCon opening ceremony, Aberrations arrive with Patch 36.6.1 on September 22, built around discard synergies and Old God Deities. Attendees play them hands-on this weekend.

TL;DR

Notable cards

The type spans tiers 1–7 with a discard-matters theme throughout: Cutthroat K'Thir and Mindbender Ghur'sha scale the board off discards, Mysterious K'Thir converts dead Tavern spells into +8/+8 chunks, and the five-version Dark Paradox rolls a random Dark Gift each game. New Tavern spells Sludge Corrosion, Corrupted Coin, and Energizing Chamber all double-cast when discarded. Tier 7 Sha of Fear closes the curve.

Balance side: Ghastcoiler drops to tier 5, Bronze Warden to tier 2, plus a long removed/returning list across types. Several heroes are banned from Aberration lobbies (Morchie, Murozond, Sylvanas, Curator/Lich King/Teron/N'Zoth for Y'Shaarj only).

What it means

A full type launch with forced lobby presence is Blizzard pushing a meta reset, not a drip feed. Discard-as-resource is new design space for Battlegrounds — and Old God fatigue aside, C'Thun vs Y'Shaarj as a per-game coin flip is a clean variance hook. Full ceremony coverage in the preview.
