September 17, 2026 — Blizzard opened the WoW Forever beta with a live Q&A. Randy Jordan, Josh Greenfield, Nora Mills and Tim Jones took community questions right before the servers came up; the Forever segment starts around the 59:10 mark of the panel VOD, and Warcraft Tavern's Val Hull recapped it in full. Several answers touch items on our verification hit list and the questions post. Sources so far: Warcraft Tavern's full recap plus Icy Veins' topic recaps (GDKP and addons), which corroborate each other on the answers they cover; anything still single-source stays flagged until a VOD check.
No GDKP, and a harder line on gold buying
Forever will not allow GDKP raiding — "in no uncertain terms," per the recap. The stated reasons: preserve a more social experience and stop GDKP raids from replacing a traditional guild structure, since the GDKP model creates a barrier that incentivizes newer players to buy gold. In response, Blizzard promised a more aggressive approach to combatting gold selling and gold buying, cited Season of Discovery as a positive no-GDKP experiment, and said it is carefully monitoring the economy to keep it healthy. Icy Veins' Neryssa transcribed the full answer: GDKP "is an excellent way for bad actors to launder large sums of gold," so Blizzard action accounts of buyers, sellers and bots and is monitoring Forever's economy "very, very actively" — SoD's no-GDKP level-60 economy settled "the way we expected."
Raids and dungeons: no flex, no cross-faction, no heroics
The panel reconfirmed the raid structure already on our hub: no flex raiding, every tier ships 10- and 20-player versions, and certain raids are built for 40 players. New from the panel: no cross-faction raiding — developers want to "incentivize faction friction" — and no heroic versions of dungeons or raids: "the difficulty of group content is what it is."
PvP: a seasonal Honor track instead of rated
There are no current plans for rated PvP. Instead Forever gets a seasonal PvP track for Honor with its own set of unique rewards, and the system resets each tier/season. Blizzard also plans to incentivize all kinds of PvP rather than letting Alterac Valley farming remain the easiest source of Honor.
First login: Classic or Enhanced
The HD/SD toggle affects textures only — character animations use the modern skeletons for technical reasons, since the shinier models were wanted for newer players. On first login you'll be asked to pick Classic or Enhanced; the Classic style by default disables transmog and quest tracking and enables SD models, and everything can be adjusted later.
Realmless: Character Transfer, Oceanic servers, names
Moving between rulesets (Normal, PvP, Roleplay, Hardcore) requires a Character Transfer service. Oceanic players will predominantly play on Australian servers, though occasional cross-region grouping can raise ping. On names: a last name is required, and the combination is unique per region across all gameplay styles.
Ahn'Qiraj: not at launch, but "big plans"
Developers stayed vague on global events, naming Ahn'Qiraj as an example: no "sneaky surprise drop" at release, but things are in motion to "make something impressive out of Ahn'Qiraj in Forever."
Addons and default tools
Forever uses the modern addon API, which blocks addons that effectively play the game for the player — the developers feel players shouldn't need addons to play. At the same time, a DPS meter, cooldown tracker and swing timer are included as default features. Icy Veins adds the technical detail: a Blizzard rep told the WoW UI Discord that Forever "shares Mainline WoW's UI architecture, including the vast majority of APIs available in 12.1.5" (via WeakAuras), and a Game Informer interview frames the goal as preserving addon customization without giving addons "too much power and control."
Skyborne lore, Quel'Thalas and Aggrend's podcast
On the Skyborne: Blizzard was set on a new playable elf race and initially planned to keep it low-key, starting alongside humans — a plan quickly discarded for something more creative; the team's thinking ties the Skyborne into notable lore events, with Thunderfury, Blessed Blade of the Windseeker entering the conversation. Quel'Thalas has "big plans" — introducing it as a minor starting zone went against those ambitions, which is why the new elves aren't Silvermoon elves. Character creation also shows a range of more understated skin colors, not just bright blue. Separately (datamine, not Q&A): Icy Veins notes Forever's Skyborne race IDs reference "TBD NPC Race ID" placeholders in Midnight 12.1.5's ChrRaces table — a possible planned NPC race, not evidence Skyborne become playable in retail. Finally, Josh Greenfield (Aggrend) will host a weekly WoW podcast following Forever through the beta and full release.
What this means for the tracker
The hub updates: the PvP section (Premier tier, Theramore vs Darkspear ladder, seasonal Honor track), realmless systems (GDKP ban, Character Transfer, Ahn'Qiraj, Oceanic), raids (no heroics, no cross-faction) and the beta section (live, day-one known issues). See also the day-one known-issues roundup and datamine round one. Still open after this panel: Onyxia's December 9 placement, the beta close date (Oct 21 vs 22), and written confirmation of the level-20-to-30 cap and the launch wipe — all still on the hit list.
