A batch of beta-period discoveries and reports from September 22 to 24, all second-hand from tester and outlet coverage rather than Blizzard announcements. Nothing here is a launch commitment, and none of it changes the verification hit list.
Items testers found in the open world
An Alliance Kodo mount. Wowhead reports the Azeroth Commerce Authority sells Reins of the Pack Kodo for 6,000 Merchant's Favor, requiring level 60 and Journeyman Riding. Merchant's Favor is the same currency behind the level-20 rare helm recipes already tracked on our hub, so this is a reputation-to-mount path rather than a drop.
A Blessing of Kalimdor set bonus in the Barrens. Three Barrens rares, Humar the Pridelord, Swiftmane and Takk the Leaper, drop pieces of a ring, neck and cloak for levels 16-20. Two pieces grant 5 percent faster movement in the Barrens and Stonetalon Mountains. This is the same design pattern as the other beta dungeon-set discoveries: a small, zone-specific bonus that makes a rare spawn worth killing for a reason other than the kill itself.
Horde-only relics on Zephras Isle. Around level 5, the Horde quest Meddlesome Mages rewards a Druid idol and a Shaman totem, and a zeppelin from Mulgore lets Horde players of any race reach the island. A race-locked reward reachable by a neutral transport is a small design problem the beta is currently shipping.
A murloc or ogre transformation food. Savory Whimsyfin Delight turns you into a murloc or an ogre for an hour. The Whimsyfin is fished in Redridge and the recipe needs Cooking 85, per Icy Veins. We already have a dedicated post on the Mage Comprehension and Coldflame Saber chain; this is the other half of the same discovery wave, a non-combat flavor item rather than a spec-defining one.
Two usability bugs worth knowing before you test
New ranks do not replace mana abilities on your action bar. Wowhead reports that a rank bought from the trainer does not swap out the rank on your bar, and the spellbook hides lower ranks unless you ask it to show them. Practically: after every trainer visit, check your bars manually. This is the kind of bug that silently corrupts a damage comparison, so it belongs next to the confirmed auto-shot and wand cast bug on any beta test checklist.
The Forsaken Paladin intro does not hurt. Josh "Aggrend" Greenfield flagged on September 23 that Holy Light is supposed to damage an Undead Paladin in the level-2 intro quest and does not, with a fix expected in a later build. One quest, one class, low impact, but it is a visible first-run bug for anyone rolling Undead.
Layering and open-world PvP continuity
Icy Veins rounded up beta forum threads on a problem the layer-change warning UI does not solve. Players report layer switches cutting conversations short, pulling groups out mid-fight, and letting a player escape world PvP by crossing a zone boundary. Blizzard's September 24 notes list the group-composition case as a known issue and say improvements are coming.
The distinction worth holding: the warning UI covers a scheduled world refresh with a three-minute countdown. It does not cover the invite-triggered case, which is where group members land on different layers, and it does not cover boundary crossing. So the two mechanisms players are complaining about are not the one Blizzard designed the warning for. Whether crossing a zone boundary to break a fight is intentional or emergent is not established either way, so treat it as unresolved rather than as an exploit.
What none of this settles
No Server Slam date, no level-30 activation date, no Onyxia timing. The raid structure statements from the Tim Jones and Nora Valleta interview published the same day are first-party; everything on this page is tester or outlet reporting and stays graded accordingly.
