September 12, 2026 — Thirty years of Diablo just entered its biggest chapter. The BlizzCon 2026 Opening Ceremony delivered a full slate: Diablo V officially dated, a Netflix series, the Amazon's return, a 30th-anniversary season starting Monday, and Switch 2 launch.

TL;DR

The season: Hell's Legacy

The 30th-anniversary season brings back Deckard Cain's lost soul to guide players against echo fights with Diablo, Baal, and Mephisto in recreated Tristram Cathedral, Arreat Summit, and Durance of Hate. Killing them grants Splinters of Evil — equip one to become a dark wanderer with Iconic abilities (Fire/Diablo, Cold/Baal, Physical/Mephisto) at the cost of vulnerability to that Evil.

Waking Nightmares recreate classic moments across Capstone dungeons, standard dungeons, and open-world boss encounters. Nine classic Uniques go permanent, including Stone of Jordan, Leoric's Crown, and In-geom. Systems updates: shared War Plans progress, deterministic Mythic Unique crafting, new Horadric Cube recipes, Horadric Post QoL, and a character Rebirth system.

The cow: Moophisto

Until September 14, the World Boss is Moophisto. Community goal: 300,000 kills unlocks the Moomento Mori Mount Trophy for everyone in Hell's Legacy. Every kill counts once per kill — herd up.

What it means

Blizzard is running two tracks at full speed: Diablo IV supported through 2027 (season + class pack) while Diablo V builds toward 2029. The Netflix deal mirrors the Warcraft transmedia push — every flagship IP gets a screen adaptation. The preview has panel times and drop details.
