Most private-server groups run one expansion, one realm, one community. Whitemane is different: it's a network running multiple expansions at once, with some realms live and several more in development. As of August 2026 that makes it one of the most ambitious multi-realm operations in the scene.
The live realms
- Whitemane — Gilneas — a Cataclysm expansion realm, live now.
- Whitemane — Maelstrom — Cataclysm 4.3.4 with x3/x2 rates and a PvP focus.
Both Cataclysm realms are playable today, which makes Whitemane the network to watch if that expansion is your era.
In development
The rest of the roster is building toward launches:
- Whitemane — Frostmourne — a WotLK+ realm, the flagship project, targeting September 9, 2026.
- Whitemane — Stormstout — Mists of Pandaria.
- Whitemane — Sunwell — The Burning Crusade.
So the network spans four eras: TBC, WotLK+, Cataclysm, and MoP — with two realms live and three more on the way.
Why a multi-realm network matters
Running several expansions under one brand is a real advantage for players:
- One account ecosystem. Hop between eras without managing a separate account per server.
- Shared infrastructure. Cross-era work on cores, launchers, and web tooling gets amortized across the network.
- Population stability. If one era dies down, the network as a whole doesn't — players can move eras instead of leaving.
What to watch
- Frostmourne's September 9 launch is the network's biggest test. A successful WotLK+ launch would make Whitemane the rare group with strong Cataclysm and WotLK populations simultaneously.
- Launch gaps matter. Gilneas and Maelstrom are running today; Stormstout and Sunwell have no public dates. The development-to-playable pipeline is uneven.
- Legal exposure scales with size. Multi-realm networks are bigger targets — and as the 2026 crackdown showed, visibility invites attention.
