The dates that decide everything
| Date | What it is |
|---|---|
| November 4 | World of Warcraft: Forever launches at 3:00 p.m. PT, per Blizzard's own announcement. |
| November 27 | Black Friday 2026. |
| November 30 | Cyber Monday 2026. |
The important part is the order. Forever launches three weeks before Black Friday. If a piece of gear is standing between you and playing on launch night, buying it in late November is too late, and the honest advice is to buy it in the first week of November or not to need it at all. Black Friday is for the upgrades that can wait: the parts of your setup that are fine today and better after the sales.
Why this page has no prices yet
Every other tagged page we publish records reference price ranges at publish time. This one does not, and the reason is that an October price is the wrong number for a November sale. Writing "about $150" today and leaving it up through the end of November would invite you to compare a Black Friday price against a number that described a different market, and we would rather not build that trap.
So the plan is dated: we will re-check these categories during Black Friday week, record what we find as reference ranges, and date every figure. If something is a worse buy in November than it was in October, that is worth printing too.
What is worth watching, and why
1. A better monitor
The private-server clients we track are old and light. A WotLK or Vanilla client does not need the fastest panel on the market, which is exactly why a panel upgrade is the most visible change most players can make. Look for IPS, 1440p, 144 Hz or better, and a stand that adjusts. Spending up for 4K on a 2004-era client is spending on pixels the game will not draw.

2. An NVMe SSD, 1 TB or more
This is the least glamorous useful purchase on the list. Two things have changed since original WoW: clients are downloaded rather than installed from discs, so several can sit side by side, and addon and WeakAura collections are far larger than they were. A large NVMe makes zone loads and client startup feel instant.
3. A real office chair
If you play for hours, the chair is the gear that most affects whether you still enjoy it next year. Buy an office chair, not a gaming chair. Mesh back, adjustable seat depth, and a lumbar support you can actually move. The racing-seat look costs more and supports less.
4. A hot-swap mechanical keyboard
Hot-swap switches turn a keyboard into something repairable and tunable instead of disposable. If you did not follow the launch kit, this is the tier-two item most worth catching on sale.

5. A controller and a dock, if you play handheld
Handheld play is a real branch of this scene, and we wrote about it in Steam Deck and handhelds. If you already have the device, the accessories are the cheap part: a spare dock and a controller with back paddles make the difference between a novelty and a way to play.

6. A headset with a detachable mic
Detachable mic means the headset becomes headphones after the launch rush. For voice chat it is the one feature worth paying for; everything else in the category is taste.

What to skip
- A new PC, if you already have one. The hardware floor for these clients is from 2004 and 2008. Read the hardware floor before believing any sale that implies otherwise.
- Gaming chairs. Covered above.
- 4K at 240 Hz for an old client. You are buying for a game that does not render it.
- Extended warranties and "gaming" RAM marketing. Neither changes frame times for a client this old.
- An RGB bundle. Lights do not load zones.
- Anything that arrives after November 4 if it is standing between you and playing. Order order matters more than discount this month.
How this page will change
This is a living page with a dated update pattern. During Black Friday week we will:
- Re-read the categories above and record reference prices with the date we read them.
- Add anything the sales actually justify, and remove anything they do not.
- Keep the original reasoning intact and mark changes with a date rather than editing them away, the same way we handle the tracker and the launch calendar.
If a category is worse value in November than it is now, we will say so, because a deal page that only ever says "deal" is an advertisement with a headline.
SOURCES: Black Friday and Cyber Monday dates are the 2026 United States retail calendar; the Forever launch date, November 4 at 3:00 p.m. PT, is from Blizzard's own pre-purchase announcement. Product categories are chosen against our own tracker data on which clients the tracked realms run, and against our hardware coverage.
