Felmyst was developed over nearly four years by a single developer, Gummy52, as a high-quality recreation of The Burning Crusade (patch 2.4.3). It launched in July 2017 and received a Blizzard cease-and-desist within five hours, shutting down the same day.

The takedown was so swift that the project never saw a full open launch, cementing Felmyst as one of the shortest-lived and most notorious TBC projects in the scene.
