Blizzard has quietly changed one of the most important launch facts for our corner of the scene. In a forum post today, Senior Game Designer Josh "Aggrend" Greenfield confirmed that a Roleplay-PvP ruleset ships with Forever on November 4:
"We've carefully examined what it would take to add it to WoW Forever and decided to go for it. We will add a Roleplay-PVP Ruleset for launch on November 4."
The part that matters next week
The post goes further than the ruleset itself:
"We're also working hard to make it so that you can select the Roleplay-PvP ruleset and reserve names there next week when our Name Reservation period begins on Tuesday, October 27."
That is a working commitment for the reservation window, not a shipped feature, so treat the October 27 availability as likely and announced, and verify it when the window opens. Our name reservation coverage now carries the update.
Why Blizzard changed course
Aggrend's own framing: the Forever Podcast episode discussion covered "some of our concerns with adding a Roleplay-PVP ruleset", chiefly population fragmentation on the megarealm model, and the decision landed after watching player feedback "over the last few days". The RP ruleset already exists in the beta today: Blizzard's EU notice for the October 21 stress test read, "The Roleplay ruleset will be unavailable for the duration of this Stress Test."
Why it matters to the private server scene
RP-PvP is the rarest realm type everywhere in WoW, and it is exactly the niche private servers filled for years, hard-world PvP with character-first and story-first play. Our tracker carries these realms in the RP tag precisely because their communities are the least replaceable by any single retail megarealm. A retail RP-PvP ruleset is competition for them for the first time in a decade, and the interesting question for RPPvP community veterans is whether megarealm scale kills or feeds the small-server social contract. We will watch it honestly either way.
