September 12, 2026 — Classic Plus is real, and it is called World of Warcraft: Forever. Blizzard closed the worst-kept secret in WoW at the BlizzCon opening ceremony: an alternate-timeline Vanilla branch, made by the Classic team, launching November 4 with a beta starting this Thursday.

TL;DR

What was announced

Two design pillars: the world is a main character, and the journey matters more than the destination. "We are putting the war back in Warcraft: armies, battles, bloodshed, survival," said executive producer Holly Longdale. The What's Next panel (Ion Hazzikostas, Tim Jones, Nora Mills, Clay Stone) went deeper:

The world. Four new regions. Mount Hyjal (post-Archimonde recovery, Darkwhisper Gorge), Shen'dralas (a hidden zone between Mulgore and Desolace tied to the Shen'dralar, Eldre'Thalas, Dire Maul, and the centaur tribes), Riverglades (a mid-30s to mid-40s frontier with 150+ quests), and Zephras Isle (an elemental skybound 1-12 starting experience with Skywall-inspired architecture).

Race split. Skyborne choose a side at creation: Horde-aligned embrace elemental tradition and get Shaman; Alliance-aligned pursue arcane legacy and get Mage. Both can play Warrior, Hunter, Rogue, and Druid — with new Skyborne druid forms, racials, customizations, voices, and dances. Beta access and the race/Zephras start ship in the pre-purchase packs; launch access itself just needs a subscription.

Dungeons and raids. The nine dungeons: Hall of Thanes (under Ironforge), Ruins of Lordaeron, the Whelgar's Excavation site, City of Dalaran, Blackmaw Hold, Drowned City, Krol'dok Stronghold, Alcaz Prison, and Shaper's Terrace. Raids: Hyjal Summit (20-player) and Barrow Deeps (max-level 10-player), with new tier sets and a legendary reward teased. The Darkspear Islands PvP battleground is a 15v15 mix of Arathi Basin-style flags and control points off Kalimdor's coast.

Systems. Legacy progression for alt leveling, an outdoor Camping system (craft campfires, share buffs through professions), opt-in Transmog, HD/SD character models with restored Classic animations, and official gamepad support. Design constraints stated plainly: no flying mounts, no level scaling, with "thoughtful" convenience because QoL choices shape how players meet.

The roadmap. Launch November 4, 3:00 PM PST. First new raids unlock December 9. After that: more raids, dungeons, PvP updates, world content, additional level-60 quests, Hardcore, and a revamped iconic raid. "This is not a mode, a season, or a new version of Classic. It is a promise to keep building this world with the community."

Forever's tale begins after the Forsaken Kingdom campaign and before Molten Core — player choices in the RTS carry echo into the MMO, which opens with a neutral Forsaken Paladin hero unit.

The private server angle

This is the announcement the scene has braced for since the shutdown wave. Direct casualties in the crosshairs: Vanilla+ projects selling permanence (Legacy's no-wipe promise now competes with official content), Turtle successors, and anything banking on "Blizzard will never." The shutdown-risk guide and Camelot-vs-private breakdown cover the fallout map. Full implications post lands after the panels — the question every server must now answer changed this morning.

What's next on the tracker

The Classic+ hub gets confirmed facts, rumors column cleared, and every Vanilla+ project's status reassessed. Beta Thursday gives dataminers (and us) the real client to verify foreach claim above.

FAQ

Is this a replacement for Era/Anniversary? No — a separate branch. Era stays museum, Anniversary stays progression, Forever diverges.

How do beta and pricing work? Beta access requires pre-purchase of the Skyborne Epic Pack or Warcraft Forever Collection. Tiers per Blizzard: Skyborne Heroic (race + Zephras Isle start, name reservation, Cerulean Prideclaw mount, cosmetics, housing decor, 1 Invite-A-Friend code), Epic (adds beta, 30 days game time, pets, tabards, 3 codes), Collection (adds WC3 Reforged + Forsaken Kingdom + housing figurines, through Jan 11 2027). Physical Collector's Edition via Gear Store. At launch November 4 (3:00 PM PST), an active subscription alone grants access — cap 60 "will always be" 60. Live dev Q&A Thursday September 17, 10:00 AM PT — same day beta opens.

Do I need to buy it? No — access is included with a WoW subscription or Game Time at launch (November 4, 3:00 PM PST). The packs are optional upgrades that add the Skyborne race, Zephras Isle start, and beta access.

What about the demo? Playable on the BlizzCon show floor all weekend.
