The reveal answered the biggest question first: Forever is not a paywall product. Launching November 4, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. PST, it is part of a WoW subscription or game time. Blizzard's pre-purchase article is explicit that the three packs - Skyborne Heroic Pack, Skyborne Epic Pack and the Warcraft Forever Collection - are upgrades, not entry fees.
That changes how you should think about the decision. None of them are tickets into the game. They are $29.99-plus ways to opt into specific content.

The Heroic price is storefront-reported at $29.99 / €29.99 (per Icy Veins, consistent with earlier reporting). Blizzard has not printed pack prices in its articles, so Epic and Collection amounts are not verified here.
The three use cases, decided
Case one: you just want to play Forever. Skip every pack. Your sub covers the full level 1-60 world, all nine dungeons, both new raids, the Darkspear Islands battleground and the post-launch roadmap. Nothing in the packs gates a twentieth of that. This is the correct answer for most players who mainly play the existing Classic/Modern lines.
Case two: you want the Skyborne race and its starting zone. This is the pack decision, because the race is not part of the base sub. Between Heroic and Epic the only practical difference for race content is beta access and the extra cosmetics. If you want to race your Skyborne on day one of beta, Epic does two jobs. If you only want the race at launch, Heroic is the cheaper same-month outcome.
Case three: you are the classic WoW theorycrafting crowd. The Collection is the premium pick, because it ties Forever to the Warcraft III story via the Forsaken Kingdom campaign and the origins of the Forsaken Paladin. It is a limited-time bundle through January 11, 2027. If you play the RTS side at all, buying Reforged separately plus a pack is strictly worse than the bundle.
What the packs do NOT buy
- They do not buy the level cap. It is permanently 60 for everyone.
- They do not buy Hardcore. It sits on the winter 2026-27 roadmap for all players.
- They do not buy exclusive combat power. The mount, toy, garb and decor are cosmetic; the rucksack and housing items are convenience and vanity.
- They do not replace game time. Epic's 30 days start November 4 and the subscription is on top after that.
The one purchase worth making twice
Early Name Reservation runs October 27 to November 3 with every pack, capped at three characters, first-come first-served. If name availability is your priority, that single window is a genuinely strong reason to pick a pack regardless of tier.
The Invite-A-Friend codes are the sleeper value: one code (Heroic) or three (Epic/Collection) let friends play Forever from November 4 to 11 with no subscription, codes arriving by email from October 20. For a guild launching into Forever together, three launch-week guest passes justify part of the Epic price on their own.
Bottom Line
Buy Heroic if you want Skyborne and nothing else matters. Buy Epic if you want beta access or launch-week guest codes, or both. Buy the Collection only if Warcraft III Reforged and Forsaken Kingdom are a real part of your plans. And if you are a sub-above-all player, remember the cheapest option - zero packs - is correct and fully viable.
